Where do you go from here?

Where do you take your business or career from here?

The answer was shown to me early in my management career.

My boss highlighted my position in the organisation chart.

It was somewhere in the middle.

He stressed that my career progression, and more importantly, his, depended on me finding a successor for my role.

He wanted to move to a higher place.

As he wasn’t religious, I knew he wasn’t talking about Heaven.

No, he wanted and needed to be higher up the Org chart.

And I was, without knowing it, stopping that progression.

Therefore, I had to get promoted too.

That meant I needed a successor.

If my chosen one was unready, I needed to train them.

And pronto.

Likewise, training for my skill gaps was offered (and accepted).

Later, as Managing Director of that business (and others), I frequently looked at Org charts and discussed progression with colleagues.

Therefore, you must consider succession, not just progression, to grow your career or business.

I’ve found that to be especially true for increasing sales.

Attracting, developing and keeping commercially aware people is vital to long-term success.

That’s why Ten Days To Trade Show Ready could be helpful.

We can train the person you want to handle events for your business.

That will free your time for other work.

It will also extend the skillset of your trainee.
