Certain headlines catch your eye.
Here’s one that caught mine.
“I was sitting opposite Satan himself.”
I had to read on.
The person facing the Prince of Darkness and the author of the headline was a journalist.
Maddeningly, I didn’t note his name.
But I can remember who he was interviewing.
Donald Trump’s then lawyer and adviser, the late Roy Cohn.
I noted this quote from that article.
“You knew when you were in Cohn’s presence, you were in the presence of pure evil,” said lawyer Victor A. Kovner, who had known him for years. Cohn’s power derived from his ability to scare potential adversaries with hollow threats and spurious lawsuits.
Cohn inspired fear and loathing in anyone who opposed his clients.
Author Sam Roberts explains,
“He worked with a three-dimensional strategy, which was: 1. Never settle, never surrender. 2. Counterattack, counter-sue immediately. 3. No matter what happens, no matter how deeply into the muck you get, claim victory and never admit defeat.”
Hopefully, you’ll never meet anyone like him in your business dealings.
They certainly wouldn’t be the kind of buyer or client you’d want on your list.
Talking of lists,
Do you know who you’ll be inviting to see you at your next trade show?
If not, it’s time to start making your list.
It’s also a good time to buy “How to Use Trade Shows to Get Sales Appointments.”
It’s out later this week.
Very best,
