Exhibitor revolt stops show from opening

File this under “Strange But True.”

A couple of months back, angry exhibitors at a very large and long-established trade show stopped it from opening.

Dozens blocked the entrance on one of the show mornings.

Their anger was directed at the organiser of the show.

The comments below provide a guide to their feelings.

“Organisers need to wake up and smell the coffee.”

“I do feel that some show organisers have no idea what exhibitors are there for and in some cases don’t care.
They just want the stands booked. Perhaps this will make all show organisers up their game in getting to know and understand their exhibitors better.”

“Costs have risen for all involved – can do well without being scalped by trade show organisers.”

What was the cause?

The organisers had introduced a compulsory appointment-setting system.

It cost £800 or thereabouts but didn’t work as it was supposed to.

Exasperated exhibitors, who already felt they were paying too much for too little in return, revolted.

Instead of seeking additional revenue lines, the organiser will now likely think more about generating a stronger attendance.

That would make everyone happier.

Trade shows have been around for so long because they work.

However, that’s only as long as they remain a paying proposition for exhibitors.

Our training courses help businesses that exhibit to increase sales profitably.

They also teach that organisers and exhibitors need each other and that collaboration should benefit both parties.

The interesting bit is how you, as an exhibitor, can achieve that.

Very best,
