A couple of months back, angry exhibitors at a very large and long-established trade show stopped it from opening.
Dozens blocked the entrance on one of the show mornings.
Their anger was directed at the organiser of the show.

What was the cause?
The organisers had introduced a compulsory appointment-setting system.
It cost £800 or thereabouts but didn’t work as it was supposed to.
Exasperated exhibitors, who already felt they were paying too much for too little in return, revolted.
Instead of seeking additional revenue lines, the organiser will now likely think more about generating a stronger attendance.
That would make everyone happier.
Trade shows have been around for so long because they work.
However, that’s only as long as they remain a paying proposition for exhibitors.
