Focus on results, not on work

26/01/24Posted in Career, Management, Targets, Training

Do you work somewhere where,

  • Colleagues talk (or boast) about the long work hours they put in
  • Bosses do the same and or praise the teams that follow their lead
  • Teams often work way beyond closing time to get projects completed

Working From Home for some days of the week is now standard for many workers.

That may or may not have diminished the number of these badge wearers in your business.

A recent QuickBase survey highlighted;

50% of (US) workers say they spend the majority of time on work that isn’t meaningful.

An article in Fast Company magazine defines this kind of work as “Productivity Theatre.”

The term describes the art of appearing productive without necessarily getting anything done.

The blame doesn’t lie with workers.

Unproductive time goes on things that technology could do faster if they had it.

Or on tasks, an external specialist could do quicker and better.

Remove those issues, and staff would have more time to spend on things they are better qualified to do.

The same research study found

58% of people spend less than 20 hours per week on meaningful work that drives results.

“Focus on results and not on work.”

The mantra above was drummed into my head many years ago.

In this context, it appears as valuable a directive as ever.

If there are productivity suckers in your work, we may be able to help.

Here are seven things our HelpDesk does to free up time for clients.

One or more could help you focus more on results and not on work.
